9th – 12th Grades: The Creative Writing Conservatory inspires young writers to develop an original literary voice as well as the craft and talent necessary to write creative pieces worthy of their dreams. In literature classes, students read anything and everything from Shakespeare and Jane Austen to Roald Dahl and Kurt Vonnegut while studying storytelling techniques and literary style.
In a wide range of writing classes, and under the guidance of professional authors and teachers, students write poetry, essays, dramatic pieces, short stories, song lyrics, film scripts, and novels, in pursuit of the elusive goal of artistic literary self-expression.
The Creative Writing Conservatory offers four levels of instruction, including all aspects of the fundamentals of creative writing, to students in grades 9-12. Creative writing students work cooperatively with students from other conservatories to enhance and finish their work for publication in the school literary magazine, Inkblot, or for stage and film presentations.
