The Truth About the Cafeteria

Orange County High School of the Arts CafeteriaHonestly? It’s not that great. Sad, but true. My daughter was really looking Orange County High School of the Artsforward to it! Center Stage Bistro. What’s not to love? Read the menu…everything sounds delicious. And the prices? Totally reasonable.

But here’s the problem: The cafeteria is packed. (Hot tip!!! No matter what, don’t let your new student ‘buy’ for at least the first couple of weeks. Long lines and limited lunch period lead to disappointment and growling stomachs during 7th block…) They always run out of the good stuff early. And because the school is now a ‘cashless campus’ you MUST have a stocked OCard (see ‘Lingo’). I understand that they did have some yummy chocolate muffins but word got out and they became hard to come by.

Overall, if my daughter buys, she pretty much stays hungry. So, she brings her lunch and just relies on the cafeteria for snacks, treats and an occasional beverage.

Waaaaah! We were looking forward to not having to make lunches. Oh well.

*INSIDER ALERT! Okay, I have just been informed by my daughter that in fact, the cafeteria has been accepting CASH. That pesky ‘cashless campus’ has apparently proven to be problematic for OCHSA administrators as well as parents. However, since I have not been officially notified by the school that this is the case, I must still categorize this ‘inside information’ as hearsay. I will keep you ‘posted.’ Ha! No pun intended…

“Each day, in addition to the Ala Cart menu, a “Daily Special” will be offered for $4.00. A vegan daily special is also available, check with the cafeteria for the specific menu  …. OCHSA”

  1. are you so right on about the cafeteria. I am sooooo tired of making lunchs. Why can’t they have good meals for big hungry teens?

    • I know! And honestly we were so excited when we first started; it seemed like it was going to a little higher caliber than your typical cafeteria fare. We came in though the same year OCHSA switched food service companies so the menu we previewed and the menu we got were different. Oh well, small price to pay for the privilege of attending such an awesome school. I am glad they have the option though; does come in handy some days ;)
